Cathedral History
St. Mirin's Cathedral was built as a parish church in 1932, the work was overseen by Dean Justin White. This new Church replaced the original St. Mirin's Church that had been built in 1808, the first Catholic Church to be built in the West of Scotland since the time of the Reformation. St. Mirin's was raised to the stature of a Catheral in 1948 upon the establishment of the Diocese of Paisley.
The Church was built by parishioner Daniel Crangle and was designed by Thomas Baird, FRIBA of Glasgow. It has a seating capacity of 1300. It is of Norman Style and built of white freestone. Excluding the Sanctuary, it is 109 feet long and has a breadth of 48 feet 6 inches. The sanctuary itsel if 29 feet 6 inches wide by 23 feet 3 inches deep and is octangonal in form.
